Founded in 1952, the Ophthalmology Department of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical University boasts a long history and profound heritage. As the first institution in Hainan Province to carry out phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation for cataracts, it has made outstanding contributions to the cause of blindness prevention and treatment in Hainan. It is a key clinical department of the hospital, integrating clinical practice, teaching, and scientific research.
Currently, the department has 9 doctors, including 5 with senior professional titles, 4 with intermediate professional titles, and 3 with master's degrees. It has 19 inpatient beds in operation. Equipped with a large number of internationally renowned brands of surgical and inspection equipment, such as Zeiss, Topcon, Leica, and Gaoshi, it has laid a solid foundation for providing excellent medical services.

The department routinely conducts clinical diagnosis, treatment, and surgery for various eye diseases, including cataracts, glaucoma, corneal and ocular surface diseases, ocular trauma, refractive errors, strabismus correction, pediatric ophthalmology, and vitreoretinal diseases.
Its diagnosis and treatment technologies in the field of cataract and glaucoma surgery have ranked among the leading level in China. It has obvious advantages especially in handling difficult and complex cataract and glaucoma surgeries, as well as in treating diseases like pediatric ophthalmology, ocular trauma, corneal diseases, refractive errors, and strabismus.
Director Wu Zidong, the first expert in Hainan Province to carry out phacoemulsification surgery, has rich experience in phacoemulsification and complex cataract surgery, and has successfully completed more than 50,000 ophthalmic surgeries.
Director Chen Shengwen is good at the diagnosis and treatment of ocular trauma, cataracts, glaucoma, and vitreoretinal diseases.
Director Zhuang Hairong has accumulated profound clinical experience and professional attainments in multiple ophthalmic fields, including retinopathy of prematurity, pediatric ophthalmology, strabismus correction, corneal diseases, retinopathy, and refractive errors.
