Overview

The Second Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical University, founded in 1952, is a large comprehensive Grade A Class III hospital integrating medical care, teaching, scientific research, rehabilitation, and preventive healthcare. The Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery is a traditionally dominant discipline within the hospital, recognized as a National Clinical Key Specialty Construction Project, the Hainan Provincial Digestive Disease Center, and a Hainan Provincial Level I Clinical Key Specialty. The department currently operates 91 open beds, with a medical team of 21 doctors and a nursing team of 38 staff. The physician team includes 3 with senior professional titles, 6 with associate senior titles, 11 with intermediate titles, and 1 with junior title, meaning 42.9% hold associate senior titles or above. The team includes 2 PhD holders and 11 Master's degree holders, with 61.9% holding a Master's degree or higher. The current academic leader of the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery is Professor Lin Feng, a renowned gastrointestinal surgery expert in China, honored as a "Lingnan Famous Doctor" and "Yangcheng Famous Doctor". He previously served as Director of General Surgery and Gastrointestinal Surgery at Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital, and Director of General Surgery and Gastrointestinal Surgery at The Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. His significant past academic appointments include Vice Chairman of the Oncology Nutrition Group of the Chinese Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (CSPEN), Standing Committee Member of the Colorectal Cancer Committee of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, Associate Editor-in-Chief of the Chinese Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery, Standing Committee Member and Surgery Group Leader of the Gastric Cancer Committee of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, Guangdong Provincial Expert for Cadre Healthcare, Leader of the NCCN Chinese Version Gastric Cancer Guidelines Expert Panel, and Member of the Expert Group for formulating the Ministry of Health's Colorectal Cancer and Gastric Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Guidelines. The Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery handles approximately 21,000 annual outpatient and emergency visits, admits over 3,800 inpatients per year, and performs more than 2,000 surgeries annually, with Grades III and IV surgeries accounting for about 60%. It was an early adopter of laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery within the province, specializing in minimally invasive surgery for gastrointestinal tumors and laparoscopic hernia repair. In recent years, the department has progressively introduced new techniques such as NOSES and TST, continuously innovating its medical technologies. The department leads and participates in numerous research projects. It currently leads 3 ongoing provincial-level research projects and participates in several national-level projects. In the past three years, it has published over 10 articles, with the highest single SCI article impact factor reaching 6.461. The department undertakes clinical teaching tasks for institutions including the Second Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical University and Hainan Vocational University of Science and Technology, covering international students, postgraduates, undergraduates, college students, and resident physician training. It has repeatedly organized or participated in provincial-level and above resident physician skill competitions and undergraduate skill contests, achieving awards. Service

It carries out gastrointestinal cancer surgery, acute abdominal surgery, and various hernia repairs. Intestinal obstruction surgery, appendectomy, hepatobiliary surgery, pancreatoduodenectomy radical pancreatic and duodenal tumors, complicated abdominal trauma surgery, hemorrhoidal mucosal circumcision (PPH), etc. Endoscopic minimally invasive treatment and rapid rehabilitation have become the characteristics of the department. Diagnosis and treatment: thyroid, breast, liver, biliary tract, pancreas, spleen, stomach and duodenum, small intestine and colon, anorectal various common diseases and incurable diseases, and various external abdominal hernias. There are 25 medical staff in general surgery, 5 postgraduates and 1 in-service graduate student. There are 1 chief physician, 2 deputy chief physicians, 3 attending physicians, 3 resident physicians, and 16 nursing staff. The talent team and structure are reasonable. Several experts in the undergraduate department have served as deputy chairmen, standing committee members and members of the Hainan Medical Association, the Hainan Anticancer Association, and the Hainan Doctor Association. There are 62 open beds, which can provide patients with excellent quality, good service and comfortable environment. The department performs 1500 cases of surgery every year. At the same time, our department has long been responsible for the practical education and theoretical teaching of medical students of Hainan Medical College, Guangxi Medical University and other medical colleges, and constantly improves its theoretical level and practical ability in teaching.
