Neurosurgery Ward 2 of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical University was separated from the neurosurgery department and established as an independent ward in 2016. After years of development and growth, it has now become a discipline with a certain scale, strong technical strength and complete modern facilities and equipment, specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of neurosurgical diseases. At the same time, it is also a key discipline integrating neurosurgical clinical practice, teaching and scientific research. The scale and diagnosis and treatment level of the department rank among the top in Hainan Province. Currently, Neurosurgery Ward 2 has 39 beds in total and a medical and nursing team of 26 members, including 8 doctors and 18 nurses, with 3 senior professional titles, 1 doctor, 4 masters and 1 master supervisor. It is an academic team with high quality, high academic qualifications and a combination of old, middle-aged and young members. The department has a strong cultural atmosphere and a reasonable talent echelon. The team members are energetic, united and cooperative, good at reform and brave in innovation, and have taken the lead in carrying out a number of new businesses and technologies inside and outside the province.
Neurosurgery Ward 2 of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical University admits about 800 patients annually, handles about 1,800 outpatient and emergency visits annually and performs about 300 surgeries annually. The department is equipped with advanced diagnosis and treatment equipment. At the same time, benefiting from the establishment of the hospital's "one-click activation" and "green channel" mechanisms, the intermediate links from emergency treatment to surgery have been greatly shortened, winning time for timely surgery for patients with neurosurgical emergencies and critical illnesses such as cerebral hemorrhage and brain trauma. In addition to its advantages in the treatment of cerebral hemorrhage and craniocerebral trauma, minimally invasive microsurgical neurosurgery has become its feature. It routinely carries out microscopic and neuroendoscopic surgical treatments for common neurosurgical diseases such as brain tumors, spinal cord and spinal column tumors and cerebral hemorrhage.
To further smooth the diagnosis and treatment channel, the neurosurgery department has joined forces with the Department of Emergency Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology, Operating Room, Department of Critical Care Medicine, Department of Rehabilitation Therapy, Department of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Department of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and other departments. Adhering to the concept of standardized and individualized diagnosis and treatment, through disciplinary cooperation, it strives to provide each patient with cerebral hemorrhage and brain trauma with a series of standardized, scientific and advanced comprehensive treatment plans and first-class medical technology from emergency admission to surgical treatment, as well as from perioperative critical care to postoperative rehabilitation, so that patients can obtain better curative effects.
All medical staff of Neurosurgery Ward 2 of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Hainan Medical University will continue to work hard, with the tenet of "first-class technology, first-class equipment and first-class service", and provide patients with leading-level and all-round medical services with strong comprehensive strength.
(1) Individualized minimally invasive microsurgical treatment of various common intracranial tumors, including gliomas, meningiomas, schwannomas, pituitary adenomas, hemangioblastomas, metastatic tumors, etc. Through individualized evaluation and precise positioning, the goal of surgical treatment is achieved by minimally invasive microscopic technology.
(2) Treatment of various types of severe craniocerebral trauma, including cerebral contusion and laceration, acute or chronic subdural hematoma, epidural hematoma, skull fracture, etc. It gives full play to the advantages of neurosurgery and advanced treatment concepts, conducts all-round management, comprehensive monitoring and dynamic quantitative assessment of the disease development, formulates timely and accurate treatment plans and prevents complications. At the same time, with the establishment of the hospital's "one-click activation" and "green channel" mechanisms, the rapid diagnosis and treatment process from emergency treatment to admission to surgery for patients is realized, which greatly improves the treatment level of emergency and critical patients.
(3) Individualized minimally invasive microsurgical treatment of cerebrovascular diseases, including cerebral aneurysms, vascular malformations, cavernous hemangiomas, cerebral hemorrhage, etc. Through individualized evaluation, the most appropriate surgical method is selected, including the single or combined application of multiple methods such as microscopy, endoscopy and intervention, to improve the diagnosis and treatment effect.
(4) Treatment of pediatric neurosurgical diseases, including various brain tumors, vascular diseases, hydrocephalus, etc.
(5) Minimally invasive microsurgical treatment of spinal cord and spinal column diseases, including intramedullary tumors, extramedullary subdural tumors, epidural tumors, etc.
(6) Minimally invasive treatment of various functional diseases: For intractable functional diseases such as trigeminal neuralgia, hemifacial spasm and glossopharyngeal neuralgia, minimally invasive technology is used for thorough decompression to relieve pain and preserve normal blood vessel and nerve functions.
(1) Microsurgical treatment of gliomas. Preoperative imaging reconstruction is conducted, and precise positioning of gliomas is realized through navigation or ultrasound. Intraoperative electrophysiological monitoring is used to monitor the nerve function status throughout the process. Fluorescence imaging is used to fully expose the tumor. The tumor is carefully resected under a microscope. Through a variety of technical means, efforts are made to completely resect the tumor while ensuring the nerve function.
(2) Individualized treatment of hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage: According to the different conditions of patients, individualized surgical methods such as ultra-early minimally invasive surgery, stereotactic navigation surgery, neuroendoscopic surgery, transsylvian microsurgery and standard large craniectomy decompression are adopted to improve the prognosis and quality of life of patients. Among them, neuroendoscopic minimally invasive surgery uses neuroendoscopes, combining minimally invasive technology with visualization through precise optical, camera and display technologies to achieve high-definition magnification at close range. The combination of neuroendoscopes with 3D imaging software, neuronavigation, intraoperative ultrasound and other technologies enables neuroendoscopes to give full play to the advantages of accurate positioning, minimal trauma and good curative effect. During the neuroendoscopic surgery for hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage, the neuroendoscope can be placed into the hematoma cavity, providing a clear and sufficient field of view and avoiding residual hematoma. The surgical steps include preoperative positioning, small bone window craniotomy, channel placement, neuroendoscope connection, hematoma removal, etc.
(3) Microscopic technology for spinal cord and spinal column tumors. Preoperative precise positioning is conducted. During the operation, microscopes, minimally invasive channels and other tools are used, combined with technologies such as hemilaminectomy. The tumor is precisely resected under neuroelectrophysiological monitoring, which accelerates the postoperative rehabilitation process of patients and protects the nerve function of patients.
